After losing all of its funding from the Arts Council of England, the historic Oldham Coliseum will close the following month.
After the funding was cut, the theater, which has a 135-year history, was unable to come up with a rescue strategy.
Due to financial uncertainty, the Fairbottom Street theater canceled all performances after March in January.
The theater issued a statement in which it thanked its patrons and expressed "great regret" about closing its doors for the last time on March 31.
Many TV soap stars trained there, including Jean Alexander (Hilda Ogden), Barbara Knox (Rita Sullivan), William Roache (Ken Barlow), and Anne Kirkbride (Deirdre Barlow) of Coronation Street.
The venue had received more than £600,000 a year in funding, but a restructuring announced in November made it the largest theater outside of London to lose its subsidy.
The current financial situation is "not sustainable for the running of a full-time theatre," according to a statement from the theater.
The spokesman continued, "The coliseum is working with Arts Council England and Oldham Council to ensure a smooth transition period for the company, including funding to enable support for our workforce and keeping promises to artists.".
"Many of the coliseum's employees have spent their entire lives in Oldham and have been with the business for more than ten years.
"At this time, they are the company's top priority. ".
According to the spokesman, all events scheduled for the Coliseum up until March 26 will go on as scheduled, and ticket holders for all other events will receive refunds in the coming weeks.
